DNS Redirection
Introduction to DNS RedirectionDNS
redirection is used to redirect domain names directly to the specified IP addresses, that is, the domain names aren’t resolved by DNS server, but are queried in a user-defined list of names-to-addresses mappings.
A Flexible Usage — Block Access to Specified Domain Names
For example, with this feature, you can block access to baidu.com and qq.com.
The following figure shows the detailed settings.
The following screenshot shows the test result.
Principles and Analysis
In this example, we configure the Device to redirect both baidu.com and qq.com to 2.2.2.2, which doesn’t exist. After a computer sends a DNS request for baidu.cm or qq.com to the Device, the Device will send a DNS response that contains the IP address of 2.2.2.2 to the computer. Obviously, this will make the computer unable to access baidu.com or qq.com.
Note
If there is a DNS server running on your network, the DNS redirection settings will not take effect.
