Detailed Introduction to Plug and Play in ReOS v10

One of the new features in ReOS v10 is Plug and Play, which is supported by UTT series security gateways. If you enable Plug and Play feature on your UTT gateway, the LAN users can access the Internet through the UTT gateway without changing any network parameters, no matter what IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS server they might have. Obviously, this feature can greatly facilitate the users. As this feature is suitable for hotel network, we also call it Hotel Special Version.

To use this feature, you only need to login to the Web UI of your UTT gateway, go to theAdvanced > Plug and Play page, select the Enable Plug and Play check box, and then click the Save button, see the following figure.

After this feature is enabled, the UTT gateway will do the following automatically:

1.  Disable IP spoofing defense.
2. Enable DNS proxy.
3.Enable proxy ARP on the LAN interface, to allow PCs that are not in the same subnet as the LAN interface to connect to it.
4. After receiving a packet from a LAC PC, the UTT gateway will record the PC’s IP and MAC address as a mapping in the ARP table, and add a host route for the PC if it is not in the same subnet as the

LAN interface.
In addition, you need to pay attention to the following points after enabling this feature:
  1.       The users with the same IP address cannot access the Internet at the same time. For example, if a LAN user with IP address 1.1.1.1 has connected to the UTT gateway to access the Internet, another user with IP address 1.1.1.1 cannot access the Internet through the UTT gateway.
  2.       A LAN user’s IP address cannot be the same with the UTT gateway’s LAN/WAN interface IP address, gateway IP address, or primary/secondary DNS server IP address; otherwise, the user cannot access the Internet through the UTT gateway.
  3.       If a LAN user enables proxy settings in web browser, the user will be unable to access the Internet through the UTT gateway.
  4.       If an IP/MAC binding’s IP or MAC address is entered incorrectly, the corresponding user will be unable to access the Internet through the UTT gateway.
  5.       If ARP spoofing occurs on your network, some (even all) of the LAN users will be unable to access the Internet through the UTT gateway.
  6.       If there is another DHCP server on your network, some (even all) of the LAN users will be unable to access the Internet.
